Age of Walt = W &
Age of Jesse = J.
From the given information we can write the following 2 equations;
(W – 8) = 8 (J – 8) —————(1)
J + W = 52 ———————(2)
Solving (1) we get;
W – 8 = 8J – 64
Which can be solved as;
8J – W = 64 – 8
8J – W = 56 ——————(3)
Adding (1) & (3) we get;
8J – W = 56
J + W = 52
9J = 108
9J = 108
Therefore J = 12.
Substituting value of J in (2) we get;
12 + W = 52
