Let x be the common multiple in the ratio 5:7;
Therefore we can write;
Patricks current age = 5x &
Roger’s current age = 7x
As per given information we can write an equation as;
7x – (5x + 6) = 2
Solving this equation we get;
7x – 5x – 6 = 2
2x = 2 + 6
2x = 8
x = 4
So
Patrick’s current age = 5x = 5 x 4 = 20 &
Roger’s current age = 7x = 7 x 4 = 28
So the sum of of Patrick & Roger’s current age will be;
20 + 28 = 48.
Answer: C. 48 years.
