Two Egg Riddle: Eggs Dropped From Building

Read the riddle carefully and then answer the question asked.


* You are given 2 eggs.

* You have access to a 100-storey building.

* Eggs can be very hard or very fragile means it may break if dropped from the first floor or may not even break if dropped from 100th floor. Both eggs are identical.

* You need to figure out the highest floor of a 100-storey building an egg can be dropped without breaking.

* Now the question is how many drops you need to make. You are allowed to break 2 eggs in the process.

The question is: What strategy should you adopt to minimize the number egg drops it takes to find the solution?

There are no tricks, gotchas or other devious ruses. Don’t rat-hole with issues related to terminal velocity, potential energy or wind resistance. This is a math puzzle plain and simple.

Answer:

Just start with the 14th Floor, if it breaks try 1-13, if it doesn’t break go to 27.

If it does break try 15-26, if it doesn’t break go to 39.

Try the same for 50, 60, 69, 77, 84, 90, 95, 99, 100.

Therefore, the maximum drops you would require is 14.
