Here’s a riddle that will brush your skills on discount calculations.

Discount Riddle

A showroom announces two discounts schemes for a TV worth Rs. 50,000.

First scheme is 65% discount.

Second scheme is ‘Ten times 10% discount on price over and over’.

Which one will you choose and why?

Let see how much we have to pay in both the discount schemes.

First Scheme:

since the discount is 65 %, The amount we pay would be 35 %.

Hence Price of TV = 50000 x .35 = 17500.

I.e. Rs. 17,500 under first scheme.

Second Scheme:

The discount here is 10 times 10 %…so We pay 90 % of the TVs price but we have to calculate it 10 times.

So 10 times of 90 %  would be (0.9) ^ 10 (.9 raised to 10)

S0 Price of TV =  50000 x .9^10 = 50000 x .3486 = 17433.

I.e. Rs. 17,433 under Second scheme.

Hence we select second scheme as we are getting the TV at a lower cost.
